HELPING KIDS GET ACTIVE

Not too many kids can say they’ve been coached by some of the biggest stars of the rugby union world, but that’s just what happened for 700 youngsters in Sydney recently, thanks to Coca-Cola Amatil and the Macquarie Bank Sports Rugby Camp.

Children from all over New South Wales flocked to the camp in Sydney’s Hunters Hill for the once-in-a-lifetime chance to train with rugby legends like Wallaby Centre and Brumbies (Canberra) Captain Stirling Mortlock and nine of his team mates including rising stars Mark Chisholm, Mark Gerrard and Clyde Rathbone, and half a dozen former Wallabies.mac_bank_1

“It was an awesome opportunity for the kids to meet and learn some moves from current players like Owen Finegan and Matt Giteau,” Mortlock said. “Plus interacting with the likes of Tim Horan and Jason Little, who are absolute legends of the game!”

The Macquarie Bank Sports Camps are an ideal partner for the Coca-Cola System’s Active Factor initiative.

“Our Active Lifestyle Program aims to help Australian kids lead a healthy life through encouraging them to participate in sport and physical activity,” said CCA NSW general manager Jeff Tucker. “We know the benefits these kids get from participating in the camps are enormous, and we are delighted to support the camps with water, juice and sports drinks.”

Macquarie Bank executive director Guy Reynolds welcomed Coca-Cola’s involvement in the program. “We’re delighted to have the support of Coca-Cola Australia and their Active Lifestyle Program,” he said. “Imac_bank_2t’s a good fit
for the aims of our camps.”

The Macquarie Bank program has been running for six years, and aims to give as many children as possible a chance to participate in sport and meet a positive role model.  The program reaches more than 6,000 children each year. As well as rugby, the camps also include netball, rugby league, cricket, basketball and tae kwon do, with internationally famous stars from each sport volunteering their time. The program emphasises fitness and well-being, and provides role models to both boys and girls to inspire and motivate them.

CCA provides product for all camps and branded kit for staff and big-name sports “ambassadors”.
