Yenda Wheel of Beer raises $10,000 for #CureMND

This year Australian Beer Company teamed up with event organisers to construct a full size Ferris Wheel under the dome of the Royal Exhibition Building, raising $10,000 for the Cure for MND Foundation through an ongoing relationship with Brewmanity.

The Great Australian Beer SpecTapular (GABS) has long been known for inspiring brewers to experiment and get creative. This year Australian Beer Company teamed up with event organisers to construct a full size Ferris Wheel under the dome of the Royal Exhibition Building, raising $10,000 for the Cure for MND Foundation through an ongoing relationship with Brewmanity.

The Yenda Wheel of Beer proved as much of a highlight as the brews on offer at Australia’s biggest craft beer and cider festival, held in Melbourne May 20-22, even making TV news. Reporters from Channel 9 and Channel 7 were amongst the first day’s riders and all up, the wheel helped Aus Beer Co and GABS hand over a cheque for $10,000 for Cure MND, an organisation raising funds and awareness for Motor Neurone Disease, to the foundation’s President Ian Davis.

Among those thrilled at the outcome, Aus Beer Co General Manager Derek O’Donnell said, “We’re delighted to be able show our commitment to supporting the community around us, and thankful to the team at GABS, David Neitz at Brewmanity, and all the other brewers and festival goers who got on board for sharing our passion.”

The majority of the money was raised by the $4 ride fee, with Steve and Guy from GABS also contributing to the fundraising and Aus Beer Co chipping in to round up the total. The funds provided a welcome boost for the ongoing fundraising efforts of Brewmanity, an organisation leveraging craft beer to raise funds for charity, with founder David Neitz confirming that the contribution pushed their total contribution to Cure for MND to over $100,000.

While the festival also offers brewers the opportunity to experiment with their craft on special offer to the public, Aus Beer Co beers and Pressman’s cider continued their streak of creativity receiving fantastic feedback and countless requests from beer lovers looking to purchase the full Yenda range, including the latest seasonal Twist ‘n’ Stout, festival beer Wattle Seed Ale, the first of a new limited release series called Beyond the Black Stump.

Next up, the Aus Beer Co team will be at GABS Sydney, held tomorrow and Saturday (May 27-28) at Sydney’s Australian Technology Park. Unfortunately they’ve had to leave behind the Yenda Wheel of Beer, with the giant construction too big to fit in the venue.

Tickets for GABS Sydney (May 27-28) are on sale now. You can watch a timelapse video of the Yenda Wheel of Beer being constructed on the Yenda Beer facebook page.
