Amatil Wins Two Green Environment Awards

Leading beverage company Coca-Cola Amatil Indonesia (CCAI) won two Green Awards in Corporate Performance Assessment Program in Environmental Management (PROPER) 2012 from the Ministry of Environment at Shangri-La Hotel, December 3, 2012.

Leading beverage company Coca-Cola Amatil Indonesia (CCAI) won two Green Awards in Corporate Performance Assessment Program in Environmental Management (PROPER) 2012 from the Ministry of Environment at Shangri-La Hotel, December 3, 2012.

PROPER is one of the flagship programs from the Ministry of Environment in the form of monitoring and the provision of incentives and/or disincentives to companies in Indonesia. This year, more than 1200 companies were assessed by the board, and Coca-Cola Amatil Indonesia won two Green PROPER awards for their factories in Bandung and Semarang for managing to preserve the environment beyond compliance, and implementing community development programs in surrounding areas.

“At Coca-Cola Amatil Indonesia, we believe that our success is due to the way we integrate environment and social considerations into all our core business practices,” says Wanda Harahap, National Corporate Affairs Manager CCAI. “We thank the Ministry of Environment for the awards, we hope that these will continue to inspire us in supporting Indonesia to move toward sustainable development; not only economically, but also environmentally.”

The Green PROPER Award for CCAI Semarang plant was received by Yerki Basuki, National Technical & OE Manager CCAI, while Ambrosius Padang, Manufacturing Manager CCAI Bandung Plant, received the Green PROPER Award for CCAI Bandung plant.

According to the awarding criteria set by the Ministry of Environment Regulation No.5/2012 about Corporate Performance Assessment Program in Environmental Management (PROPER), the Green award is given to company who has managed to preserve the environment beyond compliance. The performance assessments include prevention to pollution and/or damage to the environment, pollution mitigation and/or damage to the environment, the recovery of contaminants and/or damage to the environment, and the implementation of ethical business practices and responsible to the community through community development programs.

“CCAI is committed to attain environment conservation in everything we do, whether through environment-friendly packaging (PET bottles), farming program in our production facility (Coke Farm), employees’ uniform made of recycled PET bottles materials (Eco Uniform), and our innovative eco-friendly coolers (Coca-Cola Solar Cooler). We encourage innovations, and invest our time and resources to ensure the sustainability of our business. Because we believe that sustainable business does not only bring advantages for the company, but also the environment and society in which we operate,” adds Wanda.

As company which has been operating in Indonesia for more than 20 years, CCAI has implemented CSR programs through four pillars; Environment, Marketplace, Community, and Workplace. Some examples of the program is the Coke Farm land built in CCAI production facilities as a way to promote green manufacturing practice, and beach clean-up operations in Bali (Bali Beach Clean Up Program) which opened job opportunities for communities surrounding CCAI unit operations.

In his speech, Vice President of Indonesia Boediono congratulates the companies that received the Gold and Green Awards. “There has been a significant improvement in the awarding criteria for this year's PROPER, especially on the quality. I am very proud, and congratulations to all winners. You are all heroes, for generations to come.”
