Amatil Indonesia joined the dialogues of multi-stakeholders to bring ambitious goals of world without waste into life.
Indonesia has long been beset with a waste management problem. Our nation generates around 6.8 million tones of plastic waste per year, a figure that is growing by 5% annually*. There is a demand to expand beyond just collection and disposal towards more sustainable waste management including treatment, recycling and waste-to-energy.
One of the initial steps in this process was to bring the involved stakeholders onboard. Throughout October, Amatil Indonesia has sat together with representatives from government, industry, civil society and academia in webinars; where we discuss challenges and share some best practices in waste management area.
Trash Talk, October 8
We joined the webinar called “Trash Talk” hosted by Zero Waste Living Lab Indonesia, with aim to exploring innovations by ventures, companies, governments, and civil societies on combating the negative impact of plastic waste on our environment. Under the theme: "Reuse Solutions from Business and Government Policy Perspective“, we had the opportunity to share our contribution and progress in reducing plastic waste, as well as gathered insights from other organization; this time with Indonesia Zero Waste Indonesia Alliance.
Citarum Repair, October 22
We shared our initiatives to clean and keep the river clean during the webinar hosted by Greeneration Foundation called: “Perspectives from Stakeholders Regarding the Condition of the Citarum River”. Sadly, the Citarum River is also known as the “world’s most polluted river.” The purpose of this session is to share knowledge with participants about the condition of the Citarum River from multi point of view to achieve a clean and sustainable Citarum river.
"We know that we have more work to do and we remain committed to continued progress. We need to come together and act in unison to solve the most pressing issues that face us: plastic waste." - Ardhina Zaiza, Sustainability Manager of Coca-Cola Amatil Indonesia.
