Celebrating Women in STEM – Meet Marlene

Meet Marlene - one of the team members we are profiling this International Women's Day.

March 8 is International Women’s Day, a day dedicate to recognising and celebrating the achievements of women, no matter their roles, and how they are helping to shape a more equal future.

At Coca-Cola Amatil, we are celebrating Amatil women across the business who are choosing to challenge for an inclusive world and Marlene is no exception.

Marlene Cronje-Vermeulen is our resident “packaging nerd” and passionate about sustainability and creating a better tomorrow. As our Future Works Manager, Marlene is responsible ensuring our future packaging for our beverage portfolio meets our 2030 sustainability targets.

For Marlene, the key to supporting more girls and women in STEM roles is support for each other, regardless of gender.

“For me, we need to support each other to understand our worth but not categorise ourselves into a certain bracket or industry. When you believe in yourself and present yourself in certain way, others will follow your lead.
“I never want to feel that I got a position because I am female, and the company is required to fulfil a quota. It is our responsibility to influence how people see new candidates and not categorise them according to gender.”

Marlene is keen to change the mindset of women who want to pursue a role in STEM but feel there are roadblocks in the way, and for her, it all starts with having the right educational programs at schools.

I hope to see that female graduates gets supported, developed from the stage where they enter the job market and supported through the company with mentorship and opportunities.”

We are proud to share Marlene’s story, and the stories of all women in Amatil, who are making tremendous strides within their careers, and choosing to do it at Coca-Cola Amatil.
