This summer Coca-Cola Amatil NZ (CCANZ) have partnered with the Microsoft Student Accelerator programme to host three students in the business. After interviews held with both Microsoft and CCANZ; the three students will be working with the Information Systems (IS) team to deliver a project that will enhance process efficiency within the business.
Eligibility for the Microsoft Student Accelerator programme required that both students and CCANZ had to apply through Microsoft to secure a place in the scheme. The students were part of a three week interview process which included building and presenting a technology based application. CCANZ submitted an application to host scholar recipients in the business which outlined prospective projects that would provide efficiency based solutions for the business as well as learning opportunities for the students.
Following the submission CCANZ was then invited into a ‘speed dating’ type of interview where both students and managers were able to meet for a limited period of time. At the end of this process if both groups selected each other it was a 'match'.
The team, Sung-Soo Hong, Riya Baby and Maryanne Chapman are all Computer Science Students at The University of Auckland.
Sung-Soo says "This experience is extremely valuable to me – I'm able to learn about real business problems and work on something that will hopefully solve such problems with tangible results. At the same time, I will be able to continuously expand my knowledge in both the technical and business-oriented sense."
As the group of Auckland students approach the completion of their degrees, the students are enjoying the advantages that come with ‘real-world’ experience.
Maryanne explains "This experience is surreal. Having the opportunity to apply what we’ve learnt from university to a real life business situation is something that I’ve never had the chance to do before. Through this internship, I have been able to not only get my foot into the business world, but also expand on my skills."
