Ramping up our commitment to the environment

As part of the Coca-Cola system, we adhere to and commit to leading the 2020 Sustainability goals for ourselves, our consumers, councils and the Government. This includes carbon emissions, electricity use, water usage and, of course, recycling.

Next month (June), we're going to take an even closer look at recycling and how we can work harder to reduce the amount of waste and increase the amount of recycling.

Clearly, there are a number of CCA sites doing a stand-out job of waste minimisation already, like Putaruru which has a recycling rate of 99.8% - one of the best of any manufacturing company in the country! For other sites the news is 'good' but we want to be GREAT! So, whilst the Putaruru team take the lead and show us the way, we want everyone to get better at recycling, regardless of which site your role is based from.

We've pulled out the results from a recent waste audit at the Oasis, to highlight opportunities for improvement:

  • Measured 984.5kg of waste destined to be disposed of in landfill
  • Reclaim intervention diverted 374kg for recycling (see below)
  • A 38% intervention
  • Remaining 609.75kg of this waste was sent to landfill.

The most startling thing regarding the audit/intervention was the quantity of recyclables that was headed for the waste stream, all of which can easily be recycled.
