Inspiring young New Zealanders to follow their dreams

The Sir Peter Blake Trust Dream Team is an exclusive group of inspirational Kiwi leaders

Coca-Cola Amatil staff are happy to announce that they are a part of the “Dream Team” who come from all walks of life and are set to inspire thousands of young New Zealanders during the Sir Peter Blake Trust Leadership Week from 1st – 8th July.

The Sir Peter Blake Trust Dream Team is an exclusive group of inspirational Kiwi leaders led by the Governor General who every year aim to inspire thousands of young New Zealanders to follow their dreams. And some very passionate people at Coca-Cola Amatil are a part of the Dream Team. Their mission is to engage with their local communities and encourage young Kiwis to back themselves in achieving their dreams.

In order to achieve their mission, the Sir Peter Blake Trust Dream Team are going to various schools across the country to tell their personal stories to young Kiwis. “Being part of the Dream Team reminds me of where I came from,” says Danielle Schofield. “Going back to my old school and telling my story to a group of young New Zealanders is such a rewarding experience. I was in their shoes not so long ago.”

Each leader is tasked with telling a personal story of their journey within the theme of #BelieveYouCan. “I was initially really nervous. I’m not a big sports star like Ritchie McCaw or a great singer like Lorde. Who was I to go in and talk to schools about leadership?” says Stefan Covic, Process Analyst at Coca-Cola Amatil. “However, working with the Sir Peter Blake Trust, I realised that everyday people are much more relatable and more importantly, it reinforces the idea that anyone can become a great leader.”

A key message for the 2016 Sir Peter Blake Trust leadership week is not to let failures stand in the way of achieving success. Instead learn from mistakes and use them to adapt and strengthen your plan to achieving your goals. “If my audience only takes away one message,” says Fatu Patolo, Manufacturing Manager at Coca-Cola Amatil, “it’s that before you can become a leader, you must learn and do the hard work. Nothing worth achieving comes easy and that’s the point.”

In Sir Peter Blake’s final log, he wrote, “To win, you have to believe you can do it”. It’s no coincidence that #BelieveYouCan is the theme for Sir Peter Blake Trust Leadership Week 2016.
