Brimming with anticipation and excitement, our staff cafeteria erupted with applause and cheers as Steven Adams stepped into the room.
Brimming with anticipation and excitement, our staff cafeteria erupted with applause and cheers as Steven Adams stepped into the room. The Oklahoma City Thunder centre was in town for a POWERADE shoot and managed to pop into Mt Wellington to meet some of our passionate people.
He got to know a few of us a bit more than the others.
Shaun Lenny had the fortunate (or unfortunate) role of representing the whole of Coca-Cola New Zealand, in a game of Basketball Arcade against Steven after winning our competition to find Steven Adams’ biggest fan. Shaun “scored” an A for effort but it was a bit of a mismatch as Steven leaned in over the hoop to drop his shots.
Our Corporate Affairs Manager, Neil Waka, reliving his television glory interviewing days, chatted to Steven about his journey to the NBA, his life in the US and what he misses most about New Zealand. Question time from the audience and our people asked some strongly worded probing questions like, “Can you play in my daughter’s netball team this weekend?”…
We gifted Steven and his manager with a special pounamu necklace carved by one of our own, Jason Nathan. In addition to his role as the warehouse manager at Coca-Cola Amatil, Jason Nathan, along with his wife Kiri, produce high end fashion and pounamu jewellery through their label Kiri Nathan.
We are extremely proud that Steven Adams will be wearing a piece of our (and Kiwi) jewellery made by one of our own.
Thank you also to those who were able to join us on Monday to be entertained by (in Neil Waka’s words) “one of the most impressive young men he’s ever met.”
